No News, Is (often) Good News

No April Fools...I am alive and well.

I recently have been logging hours back at work. I am focused on customer upgrades to a new version of our software. Throughout the week I will hear nothing about upgrades and in my status meeting that I facilitate I always enter it not knowing what to expect. Although, 90% of the time if I haven't heard about something prior to the meeting, no news is good news.

That's the case with the project we took on last year to re-boot my immune system and dominate Multiple Myeloma. The reprogramming process is going well, albeit I have been dodging sick kids left and right over the last two months. All there is to report is a little neuropathy which we are throwing a lot of Vitamin B at and postponing maintenance.

Most of my time is centered around the kids and coming alive as a dork again by growing interests in what Cassie reminds me are dorky things like studying Customer Development in my spare time. So life is returning to our new normal. It hit me last night that three kids is like three points in space that create a flat plane (unless they are linear of course, Phil = dork). With one and even two kids, we had a lot more freedom, but with the third, our playing field is set and now we can focusing on growing a fun and awesome family.

To that end I have enjoyed every moment of every day that I get to hold and interact with Ruby. She turns 1 this month as I head towards my one year anniversary of my first bone marrow transplant. Cassie and I cannot even recall any memories of Iris until she was two, so we are gobbling up Ruby time.
Although we may not ever believe Iris existed prior to age 2, I am falling more fondly in love with this girl the older she gets. She now says that she loves me, but only in addition to mommy. She'll even kiss my knee from time to time. Last weekend we went out on a date to her restaurant of choice and she even dominated a sundae...yum!

Ocean continues to grow and mature at a speed unknown to man. I now know what it means to be extroverted. He can't get enough daddy time and he wants to do everything that I am doing. So he's a little dominator in training with a great sense of humor. Last week when I took him to school he got all the kids calling him "bobble head" in stead of Ocean.

I hope everyone else is well and still dominating! I hope to engage the MM community more as our life continues to stabalize after a year of colorful chaos.

Always good to get a post from you Phil. We are happy that things continue to go well with your domination of MM. Re: the kids, Bill Cosby said it best:
- One child the parents can do a tag team: "I have her, honey go take a rest".
- Two children you go into man coverage: "I have him, you have her".
- Three or more requires a sophisticated ZONE coverage: "I have the living room and will block the doorway, you cover the kitchen". Or said another way, "Honey you handle the kids, I will guard the exits and keep them in play".
- Our daughter with two sets of twins under 4 years of age is always counting:
" one, two, three......anyone seen number four???"
Our best to you, Cassie and family!

Phil, glad to hear that you are doing well. I worry about my MM bloggers if they are absent for a while. As for me, I have just passed the 100 day post transplant mark and will be starting maintenance as soon as my wbc's behave themselves. They seem to be enjoying yo-yo status right now. One week their normal and the next week they drop then they're normal again. Go figure! I think the word Revlimid sends them into a panic.

It can't be possible that Ruby is a year old already. Enjoy every minute with those beautiful kids. One day you will wake up and you will be dropping off Ocean "Bobble head" (love that) at college instead of preschool. My oldest is college bound this coming September and I am feeling soooo old now. I swear she was Ruby's age just last week.

Stay well and keep dominating. My best wishes to you and your family.

Jodi
P.S. Dorks rule!!

Phil, Cassie, Ocean, Iris, and Ruby, Happy spring. I am glad the family is back on its feet. There always will be hiccups. Feresaknit, is having multiple set backs, but her blog is still funny, I had one too but now and almost thru it, so we just keep trucking along. Glad you are able to get back to work. Enjoy your life, Hard to believe its been a year since Ruby was born. You will enjoy it. Yes the middle child is often forgotten...but you are fixing it. Blessing on continued health.

The "new" normal is a good place to hear that you are at... and like the other posters, I am stunned it has been a year since the jewel "Ruby" arrived!

You have, with your family, set a dominating example and I am glad to hear you are still at it!

Hi Phil and Cassie and gang- so glad to hear that you are doing well and returning to work a bit! Sounds like we are on the same "highway to health"! I too returned to the office a bit and make it my mission to dodge sick students, no handshakes, few hugs and no kisses! Sad but necessary! Good news for you Phil, about 4-5 months post SCT my Neuropathy seemed to slowly subside and improve a bit. All the recommended B vitamins seemed to dry out my skin and too much B I read, can actually antagonize the Neuropathy. So I stopped that after a while; perhaps I just got used to it, or it did get better. You're young and athletic Phil, so you will see it subside soon too! Walking and constantly hydrating were my fix :) Your kids are so beautiful... enjoy every second with them. I just recently posted a 25yr BD tribute to my son, and a 23yr BD tribute to my daughter. WOW it goes so fast. You and Cassie are awesome parents! Continue to feel good, and happy spring to all of you!! Julie from CA
